This class does not have a set meeting time. You will go into Canvas Modules and follow the course work and deadlines.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an investigation of the principles of sociology, emphasizing culture, social relationships and structures, groups, and institutions.
REQUIRED READING 
This is a Z-Course: All materials are free and online!
Introduction to Sociology, 2nd Edition from OpenStax  
Readings, videos and podcasts are required for the assigned chapter.
CANVAS
Canvas will be used to manage our classroom.  
Modules will be used to organize each chapter's content (readings/videos/podcasts, lecture slides, assignments), and quizzes, exams and the project.

ANNOUNCEMENTS- Pertinent info will be announced to the class, including the post called "This Week" that describes the week's work.
DISCUSSION/ IN CLASS ACTIVITY One assigned per chapter. Includes responding to prompts, replying to classmates' posts, or a group activity. Carefully read the instructions and due dates for each chapter.
READING & QUESTIONS Chapter reading and questions are due before class on the deadline. Go to Modules, click on the link to the chapter sections, then do the questions (rocket icon, called "quiz").
ASSIGNMENTS Each chapter has an assignment related to core concepts.
QUIZZES -Total of four (4) Quizzes. Every 2-3 chapters will culminate into a Quiz containing 10-15 multiple choice questions over the core content. These reflect the format of the Midterm and Final exams.
MIDTERM EXAM (~50 multiple choice questions covering Ch1-6) and Short Essay Question (1)
FINAL EXAM (~50 multiple choice questions covering Ch7-13) and Short Essay Question (1)
SLIDESHOW PRESENTATION (Project on a research topic per guidelines).
One (1) bottom grade is dropped for Discussion/Activities, Assignments and Quizzes. No Extra Credit. Late work reduced by 25% per calendar day.

Plagiarism
- The students’ work must be their own, without exception. Students may not recycle graded work from other courses. Any use of outside resources must be appropriately cited in the work. The faculty member has the authority to issue a failure on any coursework in which cheating and/or plagiarism was determined. Violations will be reported. Examples of cheating and plagiarism, acceptable outside resources and citation methods are available from RVCC Library.

Academic Support Center:

Transferring credits:

In order to transfer credit back to your home four-year institution, you will need to request RVCC to send a transcript to the school at the conclusion of your last class for the semester.  To do this:

1.   Access the National Student Clearinghouse website, www.getmytranscript.com

2.   Click on the Order button

3.   Let Transcript Ordering walk you through placing your order.
*There is a $7.25 processing fee that will be required for each request.
